Deburring plastic parts

Automated deburring of plastic parts with plasma

Plastic parts often have burrs, pulling threads or sharp edges after the manufacturing process, which can have a disruptive effect or represent a possibility of injury.

These burrs and edges are often time-consuming and costly to remove by hand with knives, abrasives or with a gas flame automatically.

When grinding or deburring with knives, additional dust or chips are generated, which can contaminate the production environment and must be removed accordingly.

In the case of gas flames, the temperature input is extremely high and there is a risk of fire in the event of malfunction.

Clean deburring with plasma

Deburring with plasma nozzles is an elegant and inexpensive alternative.

The plasma jet is used to specifically melt or round burrs, sharp edges or pulling threads.

The plasma nozzle is usually guided over the areas to be processed with a robot so that the plasma jet acts in a targeted manner.

The power-adjustable plasma nozzle allows you to work with optimum power in a targeted manner, which makes precise deburring possible. The relatively small flame enables precise deburring.

Typical plastics that are able be deburred

  • ABS
  • ABS-PC
  • PA
  • PE
  • PP
  • TPE
  • and much more

Advantages and benefits of plasma deburring

  1. Simple and clean process through cost-efficient, environmentally friendly electrical-physical plasma treatment
  2. Reliable reproducibility of the pretreatment, even with sensitive surfaces, because of the adjustable and regulated plasma discharge
  3. Full monitoring of all process-relevant parameters through real-time monitoring with TIGRES SQI (System Quality Index)

In addition, the system has the following advantages:

  • Precise timing, no lead- or follow-up times
  • Site selective treatment
  • Fully automatable
  • Low operating costs
  • Low investment
  • No special working gases, standard compressed air is sufficient
  • little need for space
  • Safe working, no flammable gases or sharp blades
  • Low maintenance
